SSPC urges safe travel during the Day of the Dead celebration
Oaxaca's Ministry of Security and Citizen Protection issued recommendations to reduce the risk of road accidents during the Day of the Dead season.
The Ministry of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) urged Oaxacan families and visitors to travel safely by road during the Day of the Dead celebration in order to prevent accidents. The statement was dated in Oaxaca de Juárez on October 27, 2026.
Before setting out, the agency recommends checking the vehicle's mechanical condition, especially the brakes, tires, lights and oil, water and fuel levels, as well as carrying a spare tire, basic tools and valid documents, and planning the route.
While on the road, it suggests obeying speed limits and road signs, wearing a seatbelt, avoiding cellphone use while driving, not driving under the influence of alcohol and resting when necessary. It also advises traveling during the day and taking extra care in rain, fog or low visibility.
The SSPC noted that the 911 Emergency Line is available for any emergency; the Ángeles Verdes 078 number offers mechanical assistance and tourist guidance, and on CAPUFE highways, 074 is available for roadside assistance.
